Deputy Mayor Kate Green Joins the Ambition Community Trust Launch

At the launch event for Ambition Community Trust, held on 22nd April 2025, we were proud to be joined by Kate Green, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester. In a powerful address, Kate highlighted how the Trust’s vision and values align closely with the priorities of the Greater Manchester Mayor — particularly in championing inclusion, equity, and opportunity for every child.

Speaking with deep conviction, Kate acknowledged that the current system has failed too many children — especially those who have experienced trauma, poverty, or exclusion. She called for a shift in mindset across education and care services: “We must see the needs that lie behind the behaviour. Our job is to help children build the self-regulation they need to thrive, not punish them for struggling.”

Her words resonated strongly with our mission at Ambition Community Trust: to create safe, relational environments where every child feels seen, understood, and supported.

“Inclusion happens in the moment,” Kate reminded us. “It’s not a policy or a tick-box — it’s what we do every day, in every interaction.”

She illustrated her message with the story of Oprah Winfrey, who was labelled as ‘difficult’ in school until one teacher saw her potential and changed the course of her life. That moment of belief and connection became the turning point for Oprah — a reminder that every child needs just one adult who truly sees them.

Kate’s closing words captured the spirit of the day: “Together, we make sure no child falls between the gaps.”

At Ambition Community Trust, we are proud to stand with leaders like Kate Green in building a system that puts connection before correction — and ensures that all children, regardless of background or behaviour, have the chance to succeed.
