Russell Scott School in Denton, was first established in 1890 by the Scott family who still own the Guardian newspaper to educate the children of the local hat factory workers. The original Victorian school was situated where Crown Point North Retail Park now stands and we were relocated just around the corner. At Russell Scott we have always been committed to ensuring we provide outstanding educational and memorable life experiences for all pupils as well as the wider community, creating an atmosphere of belonging and security. Relationships at all levels are important to us. We regard the partnership between school and home as a key foundation on which our distinctive atmosphere is created – both demanding and caring – reflecting the hope that parents have for their own children.
Russell Scott is well known for its sporting excellence and its commitment to sport, health and wellbeing. The children have represented the Borough, County and Region in a number of sports from football, athletics to cricket proudly becoming the highest placed Northern Team in the Football Association National Finals representing the North West Region.
Our vision and values are at the very heart of everything we do. As a school community it is important to enrich the children’s understanding of their heritage and sense of place, both local and national; engage them with what’s going on in their locality and around the world and to encourage them to voice an opinion. We impress the need to see themselves as citizens of the world and the decision makers of the future, particularly when it comes to the Climate Crisis and the environment around them that directly affects their lives particularly as a town centre school.
